Above Alaska Aviation, LLC

Welcome to one of the world’s most specialized flight schools for Off Airport Float and Tailwheel Instruction! Above Alaska Aviation specializes in precision Alaska pilot training. We are dedicated to providing quality, personalized, one-on-one flight and ground training with safety as our primary focus.
Experience flying the way it was meant to be with either our Off Airport Bush Course or a Single Engine Sea Plane Rating. Add a Tailwheel Endorsement, get current again with a Biennial Flight Review, or earn your Private Pilot Certificate. We will even tailor your training to meet your specific needs. Whichever course you choose, we will bring you the adventurous training you expect. While we are open year round, our best flying weather is typically from mid April through the end of September. Talkeetna is located in South Central Alaska, approximately 112 road miles north of Anchorage. The historic town is based at the confluence of three glacier fed rivers; The Talkeetna, Susitna, and Chulitna.

Earn your Airplane Single Engine Sea Rating while exploring the added freedom of float flying in a 180 hp PA-18 SuperCub. You will learn new skills while discovering the numerous lakes of the upper Susitna valley. The Float Course includes normal, rough, glassy water, and confined area takeoffs and landings, as well as idle, step and plow taxiing. The course covers docking, ramping, beaching, and even a little fishing on the side. The Float Rating consists of 2 hours of ground instruction and 2 flights per day. Your check ride will take place on the third day.
